My childhood’s landscape wasn’t the land, but the end of the land

Sylvia Plath, Ocean 1212-w

Commissioned work that was created during a one month residency program of Zumu - Museum On The Move in Kiryat-Yam. The work is a collage of intimate conversations between the artist and female senior residents of Kiryat Yam - a coastal city noted for its large immigrants' integration centers. The soundtrack consists of voices of many women that contemplate long journeys, immigration, settlement and the way that the physical and metaphorical ‘home’ and ‘sea’ intertwine in their lives. The imagery of the work was taken in an ‘agency apartment’ (a popular shortcut for apartments the Jewish Agency finances to support jewish immigration to Israel) where the artist stayed during the residency program. The artist weaves an alternative narrative to the mainstream Zionist one by meshing-up the historical with the personal into a novel local feminine continuous stream..
